Session 27: The Way is Open

The party confronts the feral elves of the Fae Wastes as they try to perform the key ritual to open the Way of Voltai. The party is victorious, and seizes the key, tossing the head of the elf leader into the canyon beyond. In the distance, smoke and cries of alarm rise from an encampment on the shores of the Shining Sands river…

Session 9: Meet Mr. White

In the sewers below the border between Firstbridge and Hammers, the party looks for the lost crypt of the Blackfriar. They battle a squad of Shades of Typhon thugs, apparently searching for the same thing. They find a homeless addict, cast aside by the Shades of Typhon after they had pressed him into duty as a lantern boy. The addict reveals his name to be “Mr. White”, and offers them a slug-like kesp, which he just found in the sewer. He claims they are edible. Deeper in, the party finds the vault of the Blackfriar’s crypt, ruins of the older city long-buried. They fight the Shades here too, as the Wash, a periodic flushing of the sewers, threatens to engulf them and possibly wash away the necklace they’re all seeking. In the end, the party wins the fight and finds the necklace without drowning.

Session 26: The Way of Voltai

In the tombs of the dwarves beneath the mountains, it is written:

  • May the shield of Flamescale ward you against the scourge of fire.
  • May the blade of Swordscale guide your blade to your enemy‚Äôs heart, and stand sentinel over your own.
  • May the radiance of Soulscale heal your wounds.
  • May the shadow of Nightscale hide your intent from the eyes of your enemies.

And the spectres of the fallen talk amongst themselves:

A red-hued dwarven spectre with an axe-sigil shield says:
Sudhakar, the dragons have broken our brotherhood!

A purple/black-hued dwarven spectre with a fist-sigil shield says:
The dragons are our only hope against the giants, Iravan!

A bronze-hued dwarven spectre with a mountain-sigil shield says:
Enough! The way of Voltai must be closed. The fae and the giants cannot be allowed to pass. What say you, Divakar?

A gold-hued spectre appears and replies:
The key is gone, Moradin help us if they open the way.

Feral elves from the Fae Wastes, seeking to open the secret Way of Voltai and expose Soulscale Forge to attack, have the Voltaic Key, and are racing to open the way for their allies… Unless the party can stop them.

Session 8: In the Shadow of the Shades

Back at the Jaundiced Jellyfish, near Dockside, Slide has employed the young halflings of Clappet Smirn’s household as information-gatherers. Avel, a nephew of the Smirns, reports that Johnn the Uncouth, a corrupt guardsman, has been doing business with Captain Flint. The orc captain has resurfaced, having reclaimed his ship through some underhanded financial arrangement, and is recruiting a new crew. Ciro, a maid at the inn, reports that the “creepy” shadar-kai named Edge, who formerly resided at the inn, is employed by the notorious Shades of Typhon thieves guild, and has an impending meeting at Embankment Bridge, deep in Blackbirds territory. The party decides to investigate this lead.

This encounter leads to the death of Edge, and a meeting with the Lady Alekto Kerameikos, of House Kerameikos, who employs the party to locate the Necklace of Keys, a legendary magical item once held by the Blackfriar himself, and eagerly sought by the various thieving guilds of the city. House Kerameikos specializes in security and banking, and is interested in keeping the relic out of the hands of thieves. She reveals the approximate location of the Blackfriar’s crypt, and explains how the party may access the sewer/ruins via the Goblin Market and it’s overseer, Kalliban.

Session 7: Chase Through the Sewers

Eager to keep their raid on the Bastion Crypt a secret, the party pursues a spy, not knowing that he is leading them towards an ambush. Emerging at a Riverside warehouse district, the party is greeted by Bedros Bedros, goliath enforcer and Kouros, from the Blackbirds thieving guild that employs Shadow and Slide. It seems that the freelance activities of the eladrin and the halfling have raised some suspicions in the guild. After a fierce fight, Bedros Bedros (now called “Deadros Deadros” by Shadow) and Kouros are both slain.

Session 6: Under the Bastion

The party is employed by Father Darius, an official at the Erathian Cathedral, to investigate a series of high-profile grave robberies. Each grave was occupied by the remains of a former member of the ruling council of Dominium City, known as the Heart of Atlantis. The Kamsarakans, an honorable family with a tradition of military service, the Liosia, founders of the Golden Lion Merchant company, and the Kerameikos, well-known bankers and security specialists, have all been victimized. It seems likely that Slide’s ally, Grint Venitari of the Blackbirds thieving guild, may be involved somehow.

Each grave contains clues, including empty scabbards, whose former contents were apparently used symbolically when the council members were asked to judge cases at the Boulouterion, the seat of justice in the Archos District of Terminus Quarter. Each of the deceased died shortly after ruling in a particular case.

Following the clues led the party to the crypt beneath the Bastion, the headquarters of the Terminus Legion, and burial site for dangerous criminals and their accouterments. Within the crypt they find a band of thieves ransacking the place, while trying to pry information from a bound and battered Grint Venitari. The band are revealed to be mostly members of the Vandals, a goblin-band from across the river, operating “out of their territory”.

The Vandals, including a formidable boss named Arges, are defeated and the party turns to Grint for answers…

Session 22: The Lost Patrol

Having repulsed the attempt to undermine Fort Moradin, the party offer their services to Kitmun Darkhelm and the Soulscale dwarves again. They choose to delay their pursuit of the former usurper of Kajaan, Ajatar, who has fled into the Fae Wastes. Instead, they offer to locate one of the patrols sent out to a likely ambush by Darkhelm when he was under the influence of the witch.

The party determine that Dhatri and Nimish, two dwarves they had met earlier, had been sent to the Drake Fells, near the territory of Flamescale Forge. Shortly thereafter, they successfully ambush a party of Flamescale dwarves, and capture one of them.
